Through broken doors

I’d been working with Marion Poizeau for six months, fundraising for the sequel to Into the Sea when the war broke out in February 2026. We thought we’d have to take a year off any hopes of filming, when one of our Iranian team members introduced us to a Tehran-based filmmaker, who volunteered as a rescue worker throughout the U.S. bombing campaign, filming his own experience as well as documenting the firsthand accounts of his entire team.

Marion has been entrusted with that footage; and we’re working to make a short film deserving of all those volunteers and their sacrifices. It took some doing and an entire month, but we managed to set up a GoFundMe, where I talk about this project in detail. It’s a work in progress, of course, but what I have seen of the film is quiet, meditative, and absolutely devastating in its kindness. It’s also the most important work I have ever done.
